Camera equipment

I always get asked by people on social media who see my photographs, “what camera do you use?”. I love photography, it is a huge passion of mine but as it is only a hobby of mine I try not to spend too much money on my equipment. I have three main cameras that I use to take pictures with and I use them for different locations. These cameras are; DSLR Nikon D5300, Gopro Hero 4+ silver edition and my Samsung Galaxy S8 mobile phone. First off i will talk about my Nikon D5300 and the different lens i use with it.

A: I use a Nikon D5300 as my camera body. It’s the only DSLR camera body I have ever used and I love it! It’s H7.8 x W9.8 x D12.9cm and is 24.2MP, uses it’s own Wi-Fi, and has a 3.2″ Screen. It’s just brilliant.

B: This is the SIGMAAF 50-500mm F4.5-6.3 DG OS HSM APO and it is the main lens I use for animal and wildlife photography. It’s a beautiful lens and the most expensive one I own, but cheaper than a lot of bigger zoom lens available. It is quite heavy and is normally used with a tripod but I always forget my tripods so I hold it while taking pictures. It takes a while to get used to holding it but when you do, it’s worth it. It is a big lens but I would NEVER travel without it.

C: This is the Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 DG Macro Lens. This was the first zoom lens I bought. Compared now to my “B” lens it is very small in range but if you do not want to spend too much money then this is the perfect camera to buy. It is really easy to use and produces lovely images.

D: This is the Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-300mm F/3.5-6.3G ED VR Wide Angle & Telephoto Lens and I use this lens mainly for landscapes or buildings. Now I have my Gopro I don’t really use this lens very much but I like to carry it with me sometimes just incase, because it has a wider angle then my other cameras. This is good for photographing landscapes. It also has a nice zoom size for it’s price as well. I would definitely recommend this lens.

E: This is the NIKON AF-S DX NIKKOR 35 mm f/1.8 G SWM Standard Prime Lens. This lens is very good for city and portrait photography, as it does not zoom. I don’t really do much portrait photography but I like to take cute pictures of my dogs sometimes so when I do this is the lens I use. It produces very clear, beautiful pictures.

I love all of these lens very much but my Favourite by far is “B”. Taking pictures of animals is one of my favourite hobbies so this lens is perfect for this. The zoom is incredible, the image is clear and sharp and it’s not too overly priced. Below are some images that were taken by the different lens so you can see some examples ( They will have the letter in the bottom left hand corner).

The two other cameras I use are my Gopro Hero 4 silver edition and my Samsung Galaxy S8. I use both of these for landscape photography, this is because they are easier to carry then my big lens and I really like the look of the images. The Gopro is great for landscapes as the colours become very clear and bright once the image is taken and I love the effect it has. It is also a very small, light, shockproof camera that is easy to carry around and has so many different accessories for it available. It is also great if your very active as it can be mounted to your chest, head or bike and still produce a perfect image. I also use my Samsung Galaxy S8 for landscape photographs. I use this because it is my phone so I always have it on my person anyway and the camera on it is brilliant! If your thinking about investing in a new phone then I 100% recommend getting a Samsung, i’ve always had samsung mobile phones and the main reason is because of the camera quality.
Below are some examples of images taken with my Gopro and with the Samsung galaxy S8.

  1. Whoa- nice must have travel lens. I, too get asked a lot what lens I travel with. I also find it super convenient to tote along soon lens instead of all primes. And for your nature photography- looks like you have an ideal set up and lens for it!

  2. Nice lens! I also use a nikon DSLR, but my favourite is my analogy camera with 50mm lens. Have you ever tried analogy photography?

  3. Wow that’s a monster of a lens you use! But I can see that if you’re photographing wildlife, nothing else is going to come anywhere close!
